The 741st Areospace Marine Strike Group "Steel Tigers" is Solstice's STARFLEET Marine Corp detachment.  We activated on 28 April 2020.

What Is The SFMC?

In-Universe, we belong to the Aerospace branch of STARFLEET International. A Starfleet ship is a formidable match for a Romulan Bird of Prey, but when your planet's been invaded by Jem'Hadar, you need boots on the ground.  We escort ships through battle zones to make sure they are safe.  However, when needed, we blow enemy vessels out of the sky.

In the 21st Century, we are regular members of SFI who like to take on a more “military” role within the organization. That’s not to say you have to have served in the Armed Forces to be a Starfleet Marine – although many of our fine members have, plenty (including our own OIC) are civilians. We participate with SFI using infantry-style ranks instead of naval ones – from Privates to Generals (you can also be a Reserve Marine and still keep your Fleet title, too, but otherwise take part in events as a Marine when you want to).

One major difference between Marines and the Fleet is that while the majority of Fleet members are commissioned officers, the SFMC has a long, proud tradition of encouraging our enlisted Marines, NCOs, and Warrant Officers.

What Do STARFLEET Marines Do?

Simply put, anything that other STARFLEET members do, we just do it as Marines. We are SFI members first and foremost, and we fill positions in the Solstice's chain of command, too, while working as an onboard department.

For those who like to cosplay, we have some snappy versions of the familiar Star Trek uniforms, and a few unique ones, too (ranging from BDUs to Full Dress). For those who are into bettering themselves intellectually, the SFMC Academy offers courses much like STARFLEET Academy's. (And many would say Marines do both even better!) For the outdoorsmen, there's the annual SFMC Wilderness Challenge. The Galactic Barrier’s the limit!

How Can I Become a STARFLEET Marine?

Once you’re a STARFLEET member, you just have to join the Corps by setting your status in the STARFLEET Database to “Active” (if you want to be just a Marine) or “Reserve” (if you to still use your naval position sometimes or most of the time). Make sure to let the Officer In Charge (OIC) know you've signed up so you can be included in the unit roster and be eligible for awards.

Nothing more is required to be a STARFLEET Marine, but Leadership Positions in the SFMC (such as OIC, Deputy OIC, and NCOIC) do need to have passed the SFMC Academy's PD-100 "Boot Camp" course (and you get your first ribbon when you do!), but otherwise only current membership in the Solstice crew is required.  Senior Staff also have to take the STARFLEET Data Protection Policy course in order to be eligible. (There are no dues or additional costs to join the Steel Tigers!)
